USA, you are reaching the bottom of the pit. Sodom & Gommorah. Laodicea. We are positioning ourselves to be dealt with by an angry God who will not be mocked by His creation.

Netflix. Starbucks. Target. Christian-based ones like Chick-Fil-A…and now Hallmark. They are capitulating daily and dropping like flies.

But the companies are merely symptomatic of our serious cultural sin. Yet we with our dollars justify keeping them in business…

“They make the best coffee” [debatable]

“Netflix has TV & movies so cheap and accessible”

“But Target is so inexpensive”

“Love Chick-Fil-A chicken…and the owner is a Christian” [again, debatable]

“Oh, but Hallmark has such feel-good movies & TV”

Compare those comments to this:

“But Lot’s wife looked back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt.” Gen 19:26 (NAB)

Is our continual rationalization with companies that mock God a form of ‘looking back’?

And people seem to think that by signing petitions and trying to rein in these renegade companies from standing against God will change the situation. It’s like standing in front of a dike or dam that is springing holes and running out of fingers to plug the holes.

There is a quaint little story in the book of Joshua at Chapter 24. God’s disobedient people were attached to idols. And Joshua turned to the people, and speaking for the Lord told them to forsake these strange gods and idols.

Now, therefore, put away the foreign gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel. (v. 23)

Their response:

Then the people promised Joshua, “We will serve the Lord, our God, and will listen to his voice.” (v. 25)

Isn’t it funny how the people of God continually repeat the same types of sins. For some reason, that pillar of salt incident wasn’t enough to convince God’s chosen people that they should follow God’s precepts, and not fall into the sins of man. Of course, it eventually led to conquest, Babylonian exile, and the loss of 10 tribes of the people of God.

So I just can’t help but wonder how God will discipline us once again.

The question: Where will you draw the line?

I just hope His angels grab me by the arm to lead me out before God unleashes any just consequences.
